"ODE" TO AN "OLD" MAN "OWED" ONE MORE HUNT |
Sitting at the Puter pounding the keyboard while watching the game on TV, I pondered "Is this all there is?" I flipped the channel and found the Sportsman and Outdoor Channels. WOW!!! I did that, and enjoyed it. As I took an interest I noted that there's a Spring Turkey Hunt, Fall Turkey Hunt, Bow Deer Season, Gun Deer Season, and Muzzle-Loader Deer Season. WOW!!! October 1st to December 31st. Then you can add Pheasant, Ducks, and Geese...In addition the rest of the time can be filled in with Fishing. "O My God" I found the mother-lode...And that's just Michigan, there's 49 other States. Now I see a problem in this renewed passion. I am Retired, Old, Slightly over-weight, Out of Shape, and Breathing has become a chore. Then there is the clothing and gear you need to hunt. No one Wears the Wool Red Plaid Pants, Shirt and Jacket that I have hanging down stairs somewhere. Now it's Hunter Orange or Camo's. As for the rest, it’s outgrown or deteriorated. The Compound-Bow is still hanging around, but it 30 years old. The Weapons of mass destruction were sold or given away. |

OK Porn seekers...It's that time of year for our annual Steelhead Camp at Barothy Lodge.... A few of us are heading up to the fabled Pere Marquette on April 15th and we'll be around through the 20th in various sections of the river. We'll be staying a few nights at the Outdoor Inn. A great place to stay if you are looking for local lodging for your next trip! Rick and Karen have a great motel just waiting for you!
Look for the fishingporn.com mothership as well as various floatables, and, if all goes well, Cletus will be dunking his newly "reconditioned" drifter in the water. He's still waiting to test it out on a local lake here to see if it is water worthy. He's been working on some repairs and things are looking good. Stop us if you see us! Good luck out there. |

Want to check out the latest streamflow conditions for any river in the United States? Click on the map! A great tool to make sure there isn't too much water to wader or float! It's a staple site for the staff @ FishingPorn.com. Good for this time of year to gauge your trip with rain/snow melt! |

Update: Conservation Section |
At fishingporn.com the other evening we discussed the direction the site and decided to remove the fishingporn blogger section since we now have a great forum, in play, to spin fishing tales and stories and to share information.
In the last week or so we've received emails about various threatened fisheries and have decided to launch a conservation section on fishingporn.com. Without great fisheries we'd have no fishing porn so it seems like a logical progession. Our first spotlight is Bristol Bay in Alaska. We've been in contact with the director of Sportsman's Alliance for Alaska and want to share their battle for Bristol Bay, AK, which really is important to all fisherman; recreational and commercial. Check out the video we've posted here by FeltSoul Media. We've also posted more info in our conservation section of fishingporn.com. |

Living in Michigan in February, it's always nice when a cheap vacation to the warmer parts of the country presents itself. We had a deal we couldn't pass up to go to Florida for a week. We took the dog to the kennel and I asked a fishing buddy if he could swing by and throw a few carrots in the kids Guinea Pig cage and give it some water and pellets. All was well, talked to him a few times. The pig appeared to be happy and gay. All that changed the night before we left to come back home. I get a call..."Dude, the hamster died!". "First off, it's a Guinea Pig", I tell him, chuckling. I half laugh and start to question what happened. He explains that the little guy was fine, no problems all week. He came by the last time to check on him and the little pig had expired. Well having been through several pets (as most of you who have kids probably have too), I was like "No problem, I'll take care of it, it isn't your fault". He felt horrible and wanted to buy a new one... "NO NO NO" I said, as we didn't need to replace him. I think he was more shook up that the kids would be once I told them. |

No it’s not the name of the new Chinese buffet restaurant. I got out of the bar at 12:30 am and was heading up north to the famed PM River. Earlier in the day I decided to head there and started packing. I called a few buddies to see if they wanted to go. No takers.
So I called Lulu to let her know I was done with work and heading out. She did her best to let me know she was pissed that she couldn’t come. I let her know, she would be with me, with every cast. I think she was more concern about my eating and drinking habits than leaving her behind. So I let her know I would be stopping at Taco Bell for the Grilled Stuff Burrito and a couple of soft shell tacos. Chased with a Monster Kaos. She was mad, very mad... |

Looking to make your box fuzzier? |
Nothing like a furry box, right? We'll it's mid-winter here with several inches of snow and the biting cold is not giving up. What else could we do to pass the time? Welp, Dallas has been jamming his box with fur, so to speak. The magic behind his tying madness? The Nor-Vise. He's written a review of the vise which you can check out here. If you are in the market for a true rotary vise that will increase your tying productivity, check it out! |

Every season we like to post this....Heading up to Baldwin, MI, a saltwater trip off the coast, or hiking into a trout creek in Western Montana? Before heading to the big box outdoor stores to gear up, think about shopping locally. Need some tippet, a rod, a reel, waders, boots, hooks, flies..heck even beer? The local shops and stores drive the local economy around these great rivers, streams, lakes and oceans. Help'em out and shop locally! We have a couple of shops in Baldwin listed in our links section as this is where our staff does most of our fishing. If you have a link you think we need to add for other areas of the state or country, please send them to us. |

We at fishingporn.com have started a new initiative to help shelter homeless guides with a place to post reports, photos and other fishy stuff. The guide business can be a tough one at times and we know that not all guide services have a website. We have an abundance of space at fishingporn.com and figured, hey, why not give the guides who don't have a home a place to report on stream and river conditions as well as post photos from trips and, of course, they can also pimp their services. We've added a Guide section in our forum and have also added a section in our gallery for guides to send us their photos to post. We're going to try this out for a few month to see how it goes. If interested, please contact us. The only thing we ask for those interested is that you are a licensed guide. If your a fishing bum like the rest of us, and not a guide, we'd still like to read your reports and stories in our Reports and Stories section. This section is open to everyone to post. Registration with fishingporn.com is required to post, it's easy, click here. |
