OK...so as some of you know, I am a graphic designer by trade (or I like to fancy myself as one-or I stayed at a holiday inn last night, or I play one on TV)...I just picked up the new issue of DRAKE magazine. Anyone read it yet..or just thumb thru it (vol10/issue2)? First ad inside front cover spread...it's a simms ad. "Not all churches have pews"...I want this ad and or I'm gonna make my own and paste it up at the shop! SUPER SIZE IT!!!!

My point...I am amazed at some of the great ads flyfishing companies/manufacturers put out. I actually end up thumbing thru most fishing rags just checking ads and seeing what everyone is doing. I use to do ads for Harris Reel Co. back in the day and I really enjoyed working with them. They were open to some really fun marketing ads (although we didn't do a ton of them before they sold). Anyone seen any great ads lately?

Nope havent seen any for awhile. Mainly just because I havent see a fly fishing mag that I liked reading in a long time.

I did remember some good ads when I use to read the fly. Some of them kind'a get under my skin though, and its normally the ones from Sage because most their ads say something like-

"This is Johnny, Johnny is a guide and Johnny ONLY uses Sage rods&equipment because Johnny knows what he's doing. If you dont use Sage rods&equipment then you dont know what your doing and wont catch any fish"

Thats the kind I dont care for, the ones that try to make you think your nothing if your rod doesnt say Sage or your reel doesnt say Ross. The ones that are funny like Simms though are pretty good.

SD...agreed as with most ads...I don't like the ones that come out and say you suck if you don't use XYZ's product...I like the ones that make you think...and not think specifically about their product. I like the 'church pew' ad for that reason. I got a laugh out of it.
