I came across this fly for fishing at night for salmon and found the browns loved it too. It is an easy ty and should be in your fly box if you like mousing for bowns at night. I use it with a sink tip and hit the bank and start stripping. I get some hard hits with this fly in the first two strips. Don't be afraid to dead drift it with a chuck and duck rig. Have fun Tying.
Here is the recipe and a photo's of how to ty it!
Hook- Mustad Salmon Hook 36890 size 6 or 8
Thread- Red size 6
Tail- Flashabou Accent Glow in the Dark
Body- Glow Thread
Head Glow Thread, Flashabou Accent Glow in the Dark
You can get the thread at Jo-Anne Fabrics or Micheals. It is Glow in the dark thread.
The hook I use is a black Mustad salmon hook size 6 or 8. I'm out of the salmon hooks and just used a nickle, size 6, salt water hook for the photos
Ty in the red thread at the front of the hook and work back to the bend. Cut a section of Flash about four hook length. Ty in the Flash tail about the length of the hook.
Ty in the glow thread after the tail section. Then rap the tread forward trapping the flash around the entire hook.
Next, rap the glow thread forward making sure to cover the red thread at the tail first.
When you get to the front of the hook make a head with the glow thread. Bring the red ting thread back and ty off.
Fold back the Flash and ty in a gill section with the red thread. Whip finish and trim up the tail.
The Silver Bullet. Now go catch some big browns. I have tied these in Black, Mickey Fin and trout colors too!! Deadly for streamer fishing. The third brownie caught that night on the Silver Bullet.
Take care,
