CBGB Nymph (Caddis Bug Green Bead) 10 Months ago Karma: 3
The other night Cletus and Dallas and I had a fishingporn.com retreat (my house and 3/4's of a case of Corona). By the end of the evening we had some great bugs tied up and no beer left. This is my variation of a bead head nymph with some input from Dallas. Simple yet effective tie. This named after the historic punk club in New York. It's got a little punk look to it.

Here we go...

I start by using a #10 or #12 scud/egg hook. Snap it in your vice.

For this tie I am using some olive thread but match it to whatever color you are tying.

Tie in at the eye of the hook. When I tie bead heads I like to add some dubbing for the bead to fit on and keep it snug in place. Tie a half hitch and cut the thread.

Slip the bead onto the hook making sure that it slides to the eye of the hook over the wad of dubbing. Tie the thread back in behind the bead and wrap to the bend of the hook. Add some dubbing to the back 2-3 wraps is fine. This will help to hide the tie in point of the olive rubber ribbing used for the body.

Tie in the rubber ribbing. 2" should be enough to wrap this size hook.

After you tie in the olive ribbing, add more dubbing and bring the thread up to the bead.

Go back to the bend of the hook and begin wrapping the ribbing over the dubbing. This is an important step. On the first couple of wraps as you move towards the bead, make these wraps tight. As you wrap closer to the bead, allow for a little less tension in the ribbing. This will create a tappered body-small and the hook bend and thicker near the bead.

Next I use some dry fly hackle to wrap behind the bead to create a collar. Tie it off and snip off the excess.

This next item is a thanks to Dallas. Take a single ostrich plume and make a wrap around the hook. This will give a little fuzz behind the bead.

Clip off the excess and throw on a half hitch or three. Tie it on the line and toss it out there...wait for the fight!

Shoe Guy-
Thanks for the props. Again I do not profess to be a master tier. I am a visual guy and like to see how things are tied and often get lost in a text description. Dallas, Cletus and I are trying to post more of these as a resource. Hopefully this helps other tiers.
