What once started out as a quick group getaway to the Metropolis of Greater Baldonia (a.k.a Baldwin, MI) has grown into a funfilled weekend for all those invloved.  We had started out staying at Ivan's right off of M-37 years ago but an unforunate night of drinking, a suspicious fire, and then finally a gunshot kind of ended our stay there during Salmon season.  No we weren't involved in any of the aformentioned events. We have since relocated to Barothy Lodge for not only Steelhead season but also Salmon season.

What started out 7 years ago as a conversation down the Pere Marquette river has turned into an annual event for the fishingporn staffers, crew and friends.  It took a couple of years to get dates and people aligned for a weekend of fishing, relaxing and enjoying the scenic property that Barothy Lodge has to offer. We've been able to keep the tradition going year after year.

Snuggled on the banks of the PM, a slice of heaven awaits.  The crew at Barothys really keeps this place in shape.  They offer a number of lodges at various occupancy sizes.  We've been lucky enough to stay in the Steelhead Lodge from the beginning and have also stayed in the Turkey and Beaver lodges.  These lodges are amazing!  We describe them as  5 star log cabins.  Each of the lodges we've stayed in has a pool table (and a nice one at that) an indoor, in ground,  jacuzzi, a spacious kitchen as well as plenty of beds to go around oh and BIG gas fireplaces.  Their website has a breakdown of the Lodges and the sleeping accommodations.  All of the lodges have a great view.  There isn't a bad view anywhere.

This secluded getaway is not only for the fisherman. There are numerous hiking and biking trails as we as a playground, pool, avian exhibit, and trout and all species ponds to fish in.  They've even got a climbing wall.  Don't be surprised to wake up and find a 'herd' of turkeys roaming right out your door or a half a dozen deer strutting across the property.

The best way to make a Barothys weekend or week possible is to get a group of people you can stand to be with and more importantly enjoy being around.  Once you find a date that works for you and that is available, lock it in.  The really convenient part of the process is that when you check out, you have first 'dibs' on the following year.  We have been going back the same year in the Spring coming up on 6 years and have locked in a weekend for Salmon fishing in the fall and we'll be enjoy our second fall SalmonCamp of 2008.   We've had friends rent a lodge for New Years too.  Some of our wives have also started an annual trip to just get away. 

So, are you tired of trying to find a place to stay to enjoy the after fishing hours? It's a great place to unwind, recharge and get back to nature. Enjoy.
